Legislature’s Education Committee Wants School Districts to Work Together
By Jeffrey Robb, Omaha World-Herald, Neb.
Mar. 27–LINCOLN — The Legislature’s Education Committee made clear this afternoon that it wants Douglas and Sarpy County school districts to work together.
The committee voted 7-1 to kill Legislative Bill 91, which would exclude Sarpy County from the learning community cooperative of metro school districts.
The vote came the day after the Papillion-La Vista School Board passed a statement that the district wants out of the learning community. The Bellevue Public Schools also want out.
State Sen. Ron Raikes of Lincoln, the committee chairman, said the step was in the interest of communicating the committee’s intentions, instead of leaving them unspoken.
State Sen. Gail Kopplin of Gretna voted against the motion to kill LB 91.
