BOSTON - An 18-year-old was fatally shot aboard a city bus and another man was killed in a separate attack Friday in a neighborhood where such crimes have brought the return of patrols by the Guardian Angels.
The teen died at a hospital Friday night after being shot in the head just before 4 p.m., police said.
Two men were shot Friday evening in separate locations in the Dorchester community, police spokesman Eddie Chrispin said. Few details were available about the man who died.
The third man, in his early 20s, had injuries that were not life-threatening, Chrispin said.
The men killed were targeted, but it was not clear whether the shootings were related, Chrispin said.
Chrispin said a preliminary investigation indicated the bus victim was shot after several men rushed onto the bus at a stop.
The driver reported that three males fled the bus after the shooting, said Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
A spike in violence in Boston prompted the Guardian Angels to return to Boston after a 15-year absence. Group founder Curtis Sliwa said his group began walking streets in Dorchester on Friday and was about a mile from the bus shooting.
