TM and Verizon Sign MOU to Develop Local Ip Capabilities
TELEKOM Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Verizon Business signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development of a Malaysian-based Internet Protocol (IP) hub. The MOU supports the Malaysian national agenda to enable advanced IP communications capabilities for companies based in the country.
Minister of Energy, Water and Telecommunications, Datuk Seri Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, TM Chairman, Tan Sri Md Radzi Mansor, together with US Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Christopher J. LaFleur, witnessed the signing ceremony, at Putrajaya.
TM Group chief executive officer, Abdul Wahid Omar, and vice- president of Strategy and Finance of Verizon Business, John Doherty, represented their respective companies at the event.
Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia business for TM, Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, and vice president of international partner relations for Verizon Business, Asia-Pacific, Gene Spinelli, were also in attendance.
TM hopes to establish Malaysia as an Internet hub for the Asia- Pacific region. By establishing such a hub in partnership with Verizon Business, Malaysian and foreign-owned companies located in Malaysia would have the opportunity to use cutting edge IP network technology, and TM’s network would act as an additional redundancy link in times of calamities or natural disasters.
