Posted on: Tuesday, 3 April 2007, 15:00 CDT

ST. GEORGE, Utah, April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SkyWest Airlines, a subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc. , is honored to receive the FAA's Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Diamond Award for exceptional attendance and participation in initial and recurrent maintenance training.

"Receiving the Diamond Award is a true reflection of the prestige that SkyWest Maintenance constantly strives for," said Mike Gibson, SkyWest's vice president of maintenance. "The recognition received by this program just shows the devotion our mechanics put into their work. I commend our maintenance personnel for their constant endeavors to maintain our Safety First culture."

SkyWest is the proud recipient of the Diamond Certificate of Excellence, as more than the required 50 percent of their eligible employees received individual AMT awards. SkyWest received the Gold Certificate in 2004 and 2005, with more than 30 percent of eligible mechanics receiving awards. In 2006, 75 percent of SkyWest's maintenance employees received individual awards. Additional training beyond the FAA standard training on regulations and policy is necessary for each of the five award levels, beginning with Bronze and ending with Diamond. AMT awards presented to companies are based on the percentage of employees who receive individual AMT awards each year.

Special recognition goes to all SkyWest maintenance bases: Chicago, Colorado Springs, Denver, Fresno, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco and Tucson, for earning the Diamond Level Award, and its hometown of St. George for Silver-level participation.

SkyWest Airlines employs 664 maintenance professionals who hold either a Repair Station License or an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License. They maintain its fleet of 263 aircraft that embark on more than 1,700 daily departures. SkyWest Airlines has more than 10,000 employees and serves a total of 140 cities in 39 states and four Canadian provinces.
