April 4, 2007
Taiwan’s two largest carriers, China Airlines and EVA Airways, will increase fuel surcharges on overseas flights by 20 percent starting April 16 because of increasing jet fuel prices, the Transport Ministry said. Surcharges on short-haul flights, including to Hong Kong, will go up to $15 each way from $12.50, the ministry said Monday on its Web site. The levy on flights to the United States and Europe will be $39 each way, up from $32.50. Jet fuel surged to $80.20 a barrel in Singapore on March 30, its highest price since Sept. 14.
