VANDALS have smashed scores of windows on the Hogwarts Express, the train from the Harry Potter films.

Ten youths, aged 12 to 14, have been arrested after the Pounds 50,000 attack on a depot at Carnforth, Lancashire.

They used hammers to smash around 337 windows on a number of carriages at the West Coast Railway Company site.

It is unknown when the tourist train, which is hired out to Warner Brothers for use in the Harry Potter films, will return to the tracks.

In September 2003, graffiti was sprayed on a carriage while the Hogwarts Express was parked near Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
