Father and Daughter Missing As Ship Sinks BRIEFLY: ATHENS
Greek Navy divers searched the wreck of a cruise ship Friday for two missing French passengers, a 45-years-old man and his 16-year- old daughter, after the authorities rescued nearly 1,600 tourists and crew members from the ship.
The vessel, the Sea Diamond, struck a volcanic reef in the Aegean island resort of Santorini on Thursday and sank about 18 hours later. It was operated by Louis Cruise Lines, based in Cyprus.
Officials said that five naval divers had been sent to the wreck, now resting on the sea bottom, to search cabins and corridors of the ship. The line had initially reported that all 1,153 passengers and 391 crew members had been safely evacuated. Rescued passengers were ferried back to Pireaus on Friday.
