Anthony Island, Southampton Estate to Sell at Auction

Lake Hamilton's Anthony Island, including the facilities used by the Water Docks Marina and the Power Boats dealership, will be sold at auction Saturday, May 5, with J.P. King Auction Company managing the sale. Also selling in the auction will be three homes on the lake.

The auction will consist of two separate properties, according to Craig King.

"The Anthony Island property includes all the land and facilities currently used by the marina, retail stores and boat dealership. The estate, located on the south side of the lake, includes the well known Southampton home, which was built as a gentlemen's hunting club in 1932 before being transformed into a luxury residence in more recent years," said King.

The island property includes a retail store, fuel pumps, 120 permitted boat slips and a service area, said King. The property also has a three-level complex housing a restaurant, office space and a residential suite.

However, King said some prospective buyers may also be interested in building condominiums on the property. "The zoning would allow multiple dwellings in a planned development, and some investors or developers may feel that would be the best way to use the property in the long term," said King.

The Southampton estate on the south side of the lake was the subject of a 2003 article in "At Home in Arkansas," which called it a "fabulous family-getaway complex."
