“Ukraine and Lithuania cannot act as peacekeepers in the Georgian- Abkhaz conflict zone,” Abkhaz parliament speaker Nugzar Ashuba said at a news conference in Moscow on the outcome of a plenary meeting of the interparliamentary assembly of the association for democracy and human rights on 9 April 2007.

“There is credible information that citizens of Ukraine from that country’s western regions and citizens of Lithuania fought on the Georgian side against Abkhazia [in the conflict of 1993-93]. How then can these countries act independent peacekeepers?” Ashuba said.

“There is also information that Estonian citizens took part in military actions on the Georgian side against Abkhazia,” the Abkhaz parliament speaker added.
