Route 80 resurfacing

The state’s war on potholes and crumbling pavement is moving to Route 80 west in Morris County. The Department of Transportation will resurface a 15-mile stretch over the next year. All the work will be done at night, with periodic closure of one or two lanes.

Start date: Monday

Completion: Mid-June 2008

Location: West of the Route 631 intersection (milepost 28.1) to west of Route 202 (milepost 43.21). The westbound lanes are to be resurfaced in Roxbury, Jefferson, Rockaway, Denville and Parsippany- Troy Hills townships and Mount Arlington, Wharton and Rockaway in Morris County.

Why: The project is part of the state’s anti-pothole effort that will “optimize roadway quality and safety” along New Jersey’s aging highways. The Department of Transportation has established a “fix- it-first” philosophy that encourages highway repair and rebuilding, but discourages expansion.

Cost: $19.6 million
