Dow Chemical Among Wall Street’s Movers

NEW YORK – Stocks that were moving substantially or trading heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Dow Chemical Co., up $2.11 at $46.58.

The company rose on reports U.S. private equity firms and foreign investors are weighing a $50 billion takeover bid. It would be the biggest leveraged buyout on record.

Citigroup Inc., up 9 cents at $51.66.

The nation’s largest bank said it will detail a long-expected cost cutting plan on Wednesday, and also announced the acquisition of a Taiwan-based bank.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., up $5.83 at $88.55.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. announced it bought a 10.9 percent stake in the railroad to become its largest shareholder.

NASDAQ

Sanmina-SCI Corp., down 21 cents at $3.60.

The contract electronics manufacturer said it was seeing weaker demand in the communications and the high-end computing markets.

VeriSign Inc., up 71 cents at $26.36.

The keeper of Internet addresses ending in “.com” and “.net” said it plans to lift prices for the popular domains.

Wynn Resorts Ltd., up $2.17 at $100.86.

The casino operator rose after a Bear Stearns analyst lifted first-quarter earnings estimates for the company based on expectations of strong results.
