TOKYO – Two earthquakes shook Tokyo and northeastern Japan early Saturday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
There were no tsunami warnings from the two temblors, the Meteorological Agency said.
A quake with preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck off the coast of Hachijo-Jima island in the Pacific Ocean at 3:15 a.m. Saturday. About two and half hours later, a magnitude 4.5 quake centered off the coast of Ibaraki jolted dozens of towns in northeastern Japan.
Hachijo-Jima is about 185 miles south of Tokyo, and Ibaraki is about 125 miles northeast of the capital.
