Cameron Calls for Cash to Ease ‘Cattle Truck’ Trains

DAVID CAMERON will today promise to tackle overcrowding on packed commuter routes as an “urgent priority”.
The Tory leader will demand money is invested in increasing capacity on the busiest rail routes – many in the South East.
He will say cash raised from selling rail franchises should be spent on easing the cattle-truck conditions endured by BY PIPPA CRERAR many London commuters.
The Government is due to receive Pounds 4 billion by 2015 after signing new franchises with train companies. At the launch of the Tory transport policy, Mr Cameron will say: “We know that there is room for expansion of rail capacity in the current transport budget.
“The Government is due to receive significant extra funds … We think it is an urgent priority for that money to be spent on tackling overcrowding.”
