Rail Union Threat Over 3 Sackings

RAIL unions are considering industrial action against Virgin Trains over the sacking of three catering workers for alleged bullying.

A ballot of Rail, Maritime and Transport union members voted in favour of strike action in support of the three staff who work out of Liverpool’s Lime Street station.

RMT chiefs gave Virgin until its next national executive meeting last Thursday, to reinstate the three. Virgin later announced their appeals will be heard on Monday, April 30.

Union bosses say the date was chosen to force them to re-ballot after the hearings.

National officer John Tilley said they are considering calling some form of action before the appeals: “We would rather have not done this but we have no choice because they have delayed the appeals,” he said.

Virgin said the appeal date was the earliest that could be set for all to attend.
