MADISON, Wis., April 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Energy -- Wisconsin Power and Light Co. (WP&L), an Alliant Energy company today filed to reopen its 2006 retail electric and natural gas rate case filing with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW). WP&L is requesting to reopen the case to allow for the discontinuation of customer credits that will be fully returned to customers by the end of 2007. WP&L is filing to reopen the 2006 retail electric and natural gas rate case (docket 6680-UR-115) because, with the exception of discontinuing the credit, the company does not anticipate filing a retail electric or natural gas case that will change base rates in 2008.

Currently included as credits in WP&L electric customers' rates are the return of decommissioning funds from the sale of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant, tax benefits from the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004, and savings from the company's workforce reduction in 2005, among other credits. If the credit discontinuation is approved, the typical WP&L electric customer using 600 kWh per month will see an increase of approximately $1.45, or 2.22 percent, added to their $65.35 monthly electric bill. WP&L is not requesting any changes to retail natural gas rates. The total annual amount of the credits is approximately $26 million.
The PSCW is expected to issue a decision on WP&L's request prior to January 1, 2008.
