SUGAR LAND, Texas, April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Noble Corporation has been named the recipient of the prestigious U. S. Department of Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) 2006 National Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) for Drilling Contractors. Presented annually, the SAFE award recognizes outstanding performance in safety and environmental protection by companies in each of four categories: operator with high activity, operator with moderate activity, drilling contractor and production contractor.
Noble's Gulf of Mexico fleet, which includes six deepwater semisubmersibles and three submersibles, delivered outstanding safety performance in 2006, with no Lost Time Incidents with more than 2.1 million hours worked.
Mark A. Jackson, Noble Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "It is gratifying when our customers and partners in the industry acknowledge our shared commitment to safety and protection of the environment. Receiving this award is a tribute to all Noble employees who every day focus on ensuring safe and environmentally responsible operations in the Gulf of Mexico. In a larger sense, it also is a reflection of the safety culture that is the cornerstone of our global operations."
The MMS SAFE Award Program was started in 1983 to recognize U.S. Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas facility operators for outstanding safety and pollution prevention performance. The MMS bases the award on several key factors including operational safety, rig maintenance, pollution prevention and regulatory compliance during the year. In presenting the award to Noble, the MMS noted that Noble had the best overall audit record among offshore drillers with only one finding over the course of 55 MMS audits.
