Tokyo, April 23 (Jiji Press)–Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. and major trader Itochu Corp. said Monday they have jointly won a 130-billion-yen order for a liquefied petroleum gas facility from Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-run hydrocarbon producer.

The facility will be constructed at Sonatrach’s existing LPG plant in western Algeria. The plant is the largest LPG base in the world, containing facilities capable of annual LPG production of 4 million and 2 million tons, respectively.

The new facility, slated to be completed in August 2010, will have annual production capacity of 3 million tons. Ishikawajima- Harima Heavy and Itochu will also supply a new LPG storage facility to the Algerian company.

The order comes at a time when a series of gas development projects are going on in the north African country.

Sonatrach’s LPG plant was constructed in 1984 in a project undertaken jointly by the two Japanese companies.

Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy and Itochu have built a strong business presence in Algeria. They jointly constructed a desalination plant there last year and are now building four boilers for a liquefied natural gas plant under an order received in August 2005.END
