DERRY, N.H., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point Communications, a leader in integrated VoIP switching technologies for the service provider and enterprise telecommunications industries, announced today that it has joined Internet2, an advanced networking consortium led by the research and higher education community, as a corporate member.
In its membership capacity, Cedar Point will work with the Internet2 community to develop, trial and refine advanced VoIP services for campus and university deployments in an environment that leverages the exceptional speed and advanced capabilities of the Internet2 network. Testing will take place using Cedar Point's SAFARI C(Cubed) Multimedia Switching System within Class 4 and Class 5 architectures at two facilities: the Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (ITEC) at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX and at second location to be identified in the future.
"In an age of ubiquitous wireless connectivity, the telecommunications needs of education institutions are changing rapidly," said Jonathan Tyman, program manager for Internet2. "Colleges, universities and large research facilities increasingly are exploring and adopting new voice solutions that will enable faculty, staff and students to use a single, secure, unified, and disaster proof network for fixed and mobile voice and high-speed data communication. We look forward to working with Cedar Point as we together explore these important technologies."
"One of the strengths of Cedar Point has been our adaptive ability to work closely with leading research organizations to identify ways in which we can help meet the needs of this unique community," said George Kassas, founder and executive vice president, business development for Cedar Point. "Our collaborative research with the Internet2 community will provide us with the access and expertise that we need to ensure that we continue to address the evolving requirements of the educational community today and in the future."
Cedar Point is currently conducting its second trial deployment in the campus and enterprise VoIP market, with Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. Last year, the company successfully conducted a trial with the University of Massachusetts -- Amherst to a test base of faculty, administrative staff and resident students. Subsequent plans are being developed to commercially scale this deployment in 2007.
