IXYS Corporation (Nasdaq: IXYS), a Silicon Valley power semiconductor company, today announced its selection as one of 15 California Innovation Award recipients, recognized by California Tech 100 partners and the California Commission on Jobs and Economic Growth.

Among nearly 300 nominations, 75 companies received prestigious “Innovation All-Star” recognition. IXYS was among a select group of 15 Innovation All-Stars to receive the top statewide California Innovation Award for outstanding leadership in innovation.

“As a local company with offices worldwide, we became acutely aware of global power demands, balanced against a backdrop of diminished natural resources,” stated IXYS CEO Dr. Nathan Zommer. “For more than 20 years, power conversion efficiency has driven the technological initiatives at IXYS. To gain maximum power with least energy expenditure, we pioneered the development of high power semiconductor chips as well as alternative and renewable energy products. We are honored to be recognized for our ongoing efforts.”

“We believe innovation and entrepreneurship are the drivers of economic growth in California,” added Mark Mosher, Executive Director for the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth — a nonprofit corporation whose members are chosen by the Governor to advise him on how to expand jobs and economic growth in the state. “These Innovation All-Stars are models for our state.”

About the California Innovation Corridor

Managed by the California Space Authority (CSA), and administered through the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), the California Innovation Corridor is one of the state’s initiatives to foster innovation and includes more than 60 partner organizations throughout 13 counties. It was Corridor partners that reviewed nearly 300 nominees before reducing the list of 75 Innovation All-Stars. Of the 75 All-Stars, 15 companies were then selected to receive the statewide California Innovation Awards.

About IXYS Corporation

Since its inception in 1983, IXYS Corporation, a Silicon Valley power semiconductor company, has been developing technology-driven products to improve power conversion efficiency. IXYS is a U.S. pioneer in the development of power semiconductors that effectively monitor electrical voltage to produce maximum effect with least expenditure of energy.

Diminishing natural resources, demand for cheap energy and environmental directives for energy efficiency represent a significant challenge. IXYS’ power semiconductors and mixed-signal integrated circuits (IC) can play a vital role in reducing energy costs and consumption — as their products regulate the amount of energy utilized by everyday products. With a customer base of over 3000 telecommunications, transportation, industrial, medical and consumer companies, IXYS is a leading provider of power semiconductors in the U.S.

A forerunner in the alternative and renewable energy industry, IXYS focuses on harnessing wind and solar power for conversion to the U.S. electrical power grid — one more way to avoid another 2003 blackout. In addition, IXYS’ R&D teams also developed solar cell arrays and cards for charging portable batteries — with applications for traditional alkaline batteries, laptops, cell phones, RFID tags and sensors, to name a few.

IXYS continues to invest in new technologies through acquisition and internal R&D aimed at complementing IXYS strengths in power, as well as expanding its market opportunity into emerging high growth markets, including energy management and power quality. Both of these markets are gaining more attention due to the increasing use of electricity, and the strategic importance of energy conservation worldwide.

IXYS, and its subsidiary companies, offer a diversified product base that addresses worldwide needs for power conversion, electrical efficiency and renewable energy.
