The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has amassedmore than $5,000, as well as several environmental award nominations, for collecting more than 1.5 million pounds of paper for recycling since December 2005.
The T managed the feat by partnering with the Abitibi Paper Retriever Co., which now has 53 retrievers throughout the transit system. Work involving the collection of paper and maintenance of the retrievers is handled entirely by Abitibi at no cost the T, MBTA General Manager Dan Grabauskas said.
