Report: Wolfowitz Found in Violation
April 28, 2007
A committee of the Washington-based World Bank has concluded President Paul Wolfowitz violated ethics rules and could call for his resignation.
The Washington Post said Saturday that Wolfowitz, a close ally of President Bush, was found in violation for his arranging a pay raise for his girlfriend.
Wolfowitz appears Monday before the committee to offer his defense, and could be asked to step down at that time by the World Bank board.
Wolfowitz came under fire amid a stormy tenure at the World Bank during which he reportedly rankled the institution’s bureaucracy by seeking reforms. Wolfowitz’s attorney told the newspaper he had no intention of resigning and accused bank insiders of manufacturing a crisis in order to push him out.
