EDF Energy joined the power price war yesterday by cutting gas bills by more than 10 per cent.

The French-owned firm said the move, effective from June 15, would reduce the bill of the average dual-fuel customer by pounds 63 to pounds 907 a year.

Chief executive Vincent de Rivaz said: “We listen carefully to what our customers tell us.”

EDF, which has 5.5 million UK customers, will not slash electricity prices. It claims its electricity bills rose least last year.

Scottish Power is now the only firm among the six leading energy companies not to cut prices since February.
