The Williston Park Board of Trustees approved a video franchise this week allowing Verizon Communications to offer its FiOS television service in that town.

The agreement between Verizon and Williston Park is subject to review by the New York State Public Service Commission.

Verizon has already gained video franchises in the villages of Massapequa Park, Cedarhurst, Laurel Hollow, Lynbrook, Mineola, East Rockaway, Farmingdale, Valley Stream and Freeport, and in the towns of Huntington, Smithtown, Hempstead and Oyster Bay.

FiOS is a focal point for Verizon’s ambitious and expensive plan to replace its copper phone wires with robust fiber-optic lines. The service is currently available to more than 1 million households in parts of eight states: California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
