EDF Energies Nouvelles, a 50%-owned subsidiary of EDF, has announced that its Red Tile wind farm in the UK has entered into service, raising the company’s total number of wind farms in production in the UK to eight.

The new wind farm is located in the Fenlands of East England, and comprises 12 REpower MM82 wind turbines, each with a unit capacity of 2MW. This gives it 24MW in total capacity.

The wind farm represents an investment of E33.2 million and belongs to a cluster of wind farms in the Fenlands, including 44MW in capacity brought into service by EDF Energies Nouvelles during 2006, namely via the Deeping Saint Nicholas, Glass Moor and Red House facilities.

The electricity generated by these wind farms is sold to EDF Energy, EDF’s UK subsidiary.

The development of the new facility was carried out by Wind Prospect Developments Limited, which is 70%-owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles.

With the addition of Red Tile, EDF Energies Nouvelles now has eight wind farms in production in the UK, making up a total net capacity of 103.2MW.
