Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. (P&WC), a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company, today joins Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, in celebrating the new mid-size Citation Encore+ business jet's entry into service. The Citation Encore+ is powered by advanced PW535B engines.
"This is a terrific milestone for both Cessna and Pratt & Whitney Canada, and is the culmination of outstanding teamwork between our two companies," said Claude Lachapelle, Vice President, Business Aviation, P&WC.
The Citation Encore+, successor to the popular Citation Encore, is equipped with two PW535B engines, the newest member in P&WC's popular PW500 family of turbofan engines. Rated at 3,400 lbs. of thrust, it features the latest state-of-the-art, dual-channel full-authority digital engine control (FADEC), to reduce pilot workload and increase efficiency of operation. Additionally, an electronic engine control (EEC) system allows operators to proactively manage maintenance needs. The PW535B also incorporates a high-efficiency, effusion-cooled combustion liner, further contributing to the efficiency and reduced maintenance costs of this engine.
"The PW535B is specifically designed for low fuel consumption and quiet operation, together with high durability and reliability," added Lachapelle. "We are proud to say that it surpasses the most stringent environmental standards for emissions, set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)."
The PW535B received Transport Canada type certification in October 2006 and FAA type certification in December 2006.
Operators of the PW535B will benefit from extensive warranty protection as well as P&WC's leading worldwide network of customer services for business and general aviation.
