Blue Horizon Organic Seafood Co. Featured at All Things Organic(TM) Trade Show

Posted on: Wednesday, 2 May 2007, 18:00 CDT

Fast becoming the go-to source in organically raised and sustainable seafood, Blue Horizon Organic Seafood Co. will enjoy a pioneering presence in the organic seafood category at the All Things Organic™ trade show, happening Sunday through Tuesday at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.

Blue Horizon founders Tim Redmond and John Battendieri are early entrepreneurs in organic foods who realized a demand for seafood taken from the most advanced, eco-friendly sources in aquaculture. They will show Blue Horizon's product offering and Redmond will speak on behalf of organic aquaculture on the panel for "Emerging Standards Update" held Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in room N227.

Already a leading supplier of branded and private label seafood for retail and foodservice, Blue Horizon will feature its new Blue Horizon Organic branded skillet meals and breaded shrimp products, along with its Last Minute Chef frozen line of microwaveable entrees and appetizers.

Battendieri and Redmond, are best known for building natural and organic food brands, among them Mr. Natural's Juices, Santa Cruz Organics, Millina's Finest organic pasta sauces and salsas, Eden Foods, Inc., originator of Edensoy Soymilk, and VRUIT fruit and vegetable juice blends.

Blue Horizon Organic Seafood Company intends to be a major domestic source for both value-added prepared and raw organic seafood as the category grows in demand. It utilizes sustainable seafood farming partners to illustrate a top tier model for the emerging trend of organic seafood farming (prohibiting growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and artificial colorings, including water, environmental, and worker standards). The practices are intended to make farmed organic seafood the healthiest, safest choice in farmed seafood available.

While Europe has provided certification standards for the production and labeling of organic seafood for several years, The United States Department of Agriculture has yet to provide standards and will not currently allow use of the USDA Organic seal with seafood. Recently, however, the National Organic Standards Board held public meetings in Washington, D.C., in which Redmond commented to the NOSB on the importance of quickly establishing standards for organic seafood. The NOSB has since passed on to the USDA National Organic Program a set of certification standards.

All Things Organic™ is the only event in North America focused exclusively on organic products -- all products on display must be certified organic, made with certified organic ingredients, or be approved for use in organic production. This event has more organic companies exhibiting than any other show in North America.

Blue Horizon was founded in 2005 to build a branded, consumer-driven seafood business to supply sustainable, wild-caught and organic seafood products to North America, while simultaneously helping protect the health of aquatic ecosystems. Learn more at http://www.bluehorizonseafood.com.
