State Agency to Laud Two Telephone Workers
ORONO – The Department of Public Safety Emergency Communications Bureau plans to recognize two Verizon Telecom employees this morning for their work in installing a 911 dispatch system.
Adam Edwards and Matthew Lebre helped the Maine State Police Orono barracks change to a new 911 system in March.
This involved removing the old system and installing a computerized version, which has upgraded functions such as mapping that pinpoints callers’ locations and tracks cell phone calls.
“Edwards and Lebre took a major interest making sure the installation was done correctly. There were some problems with the process,” said Jeff Coon, supervisor at the barracks.
“They tackled issues that even the engineers couldn’t figure out, got us up and going.”
Officials from Verizon were expected to attend the ceremony, along with Public Safety Department staff and family members.
Verizon employee Chris Dunphy also was to be recognized.
