From January-March 2006, the Business Volume of China's Communications Industry Reached RMB 343.72 Billion

During January-March, 2006, the business volume of China's communications industry reached RMB 343.72 billion, up 24.8% from the same period of 2005, among which, that of the telecommunication industry was RMB 326.51 billion, up 25.3% year-on-year and, that of the post industry was RMB 17.21 billion, up 17.1%.
At the same time, the business revenue of China's communications industry reached RMB 169.25 billion, increasing by 11.8% compared to the same period of 2005, among which, that of the telecommunication industry was RMB 153.43 billion, up 11.6% year-on-year and, that of the post industry was RMB 15.83 billion, up 13.7%.
Mobile communications plays a principal role in prompting the stable increase of the revenue of telecommunication business. Its revenue increased by 17.6% year-on-year and shared 15.6% of the total revenue of telecommunication industry. Data communication still enjoyed the fastest increase in revenue, rising by 23.0% year-on-year, twice that of major businesses of telecommunication industry. The revenue of the local fixed phone business and the long-distance call business to the total revenue of the communications industry decreased by 1.98% and 1.10% respectively compared to the same period of 2005, while that of the mobile communication business and the data communication business increased by 2.24% and 1.00% separately. In mobile communications field, the mobile data business develops at a fast pace and its revenue accounted for 20.3% of the total revenue of mobile communications industry.
By increase in mobile phone subscribers in the first quarter of 2006, the top 10 provinces (municipalities/regions) are Hebei, Henan, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hubei, Sichuan, Liaoning, Fujian and Shanghai. By revenue, east China enjoys obvious advantages with six of its provinces in the ranking list. By increase in subscriber number, provinces (municipalities/regions) from central and west China are over their counterparts in east China. Henan and Hebei occupied the first place of increase in fixed phone subscribers and mobile phone subscribers respectively. In the top 10 list by province (municipality/region), five are from central China and four from west China.
