Tata Motors Records 26% Rise in Q4 Profit
India’s leading bus and truck manufacturer Tata Motors has recorded a 25.6% rise in fourth quarter net profit, due to strong domestic sales of higher-margin trucks.
Tata, which commands around 60% of India’s $5 billion truck and bus market, said that net profit increased to INR5.77 billion ($141 million) in its quarter ended March 31, compared to the INR4.58 billion recorded in the same quarter a year ago.
Over the quarter, net sales grew by 20.3% to INR82.67 billion, up from INR68.70 billion a year ago. Meanwhile, total sales volume totaled 172,355 units, up 16% on the 148,343 units sold in the prior year quarter. Sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market increased by 22% to 87,467 units, while passenger vehicles sales increased by 14% to 70,248 units, compared to the corresponding quarter last year.
Tata’s vehicles are sold in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and in Asia and Australia.
