Probe Continues into Jetliner Landing Gear Collapse at Toronto Airport
TORONTO (CP) – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is continuing to investigate what caused an Air Canada Jazz airliner’s main landing gear to collapse after touching down Sunday at Toronto’s Pearson airport.
An airline spokeswoman says the main landing gear buckled while the plane was moving from the active runway onto a taxiway after arriving from Moncton N.B..
The 37 passengers and three crew members on board the jet aircraft were not hurt.
Lorrie McKee, a spokeswoman for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, says that the plane was pulled into a hangar at Pearson early Monday morning.
The runway and the taxiway will remain closed until the TSB has completed their investigation of the incident. Air traffic at the airport has not been affected.
Air Canada Jazz spokeswoman Manon Stuart says this is the first time an incident like this has occurred involving this aircraft, a 50-seat Canadian regional jet.
Air Canada Jazz is a subsidiary of Air Canada Enterprise Aviation Holdings Inc., the parent holding company of Air Canada.
