Sterling – now Europe’s fourth largest budget airline and the largest in Scandinavia – is to launch three new services from Nottingham East Midlands Airport.

The carrier will this October start flying from the East Midlands to Copenhagen, Denmark; Stockholm in Sweden; and Oslo, Norway.

Sterling, which is based in Copenhagen, operates a fleet of 25 Boeing 737 aircraft.

Penny Coates, managing director, East Midlands Airport, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome yet another fantastic airline to the region.

“The introduction of Sterling flights complement the existing scheduled and charter operations available from the airport by offering customers even more choice across the Midlands.

“We also believe the addition of another international brand will be a huge boost for jobs, trade and tourism in the region.

“We are confident these three routes will be extremely popular for both our business and leisure passengers and we look forward to the commencement of these flights.” Stephen Woolfe, chairman of the East Midlands Chambers of Commerce, added: “This is extremely good news.

“These routes to three important capital cities will help boost the commercial strength of the East Midlands by improving direct access to Scandinavia.”
