FirstGroup Bid Clears Another Hurdle
May 24, 2007
FIRSTGROUP said yesterday that the US Surface Transportation Board approved the Scottishbased bus and rail company’s proposed GBP1.4bn merger with Laidlaw International, the owner of Greyhound inter-city bus lines. The board’s approval follows clearance by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. The merger is still subject to certain closing conditions, including further regulatory approval in the US and Canada. Laidlaw International is a holding company for North America’s largest providers of school and inter-city bus transport services and a leading supplier of public transit services.
