Zsweet(R) Celebrates the Sweet Life With Diabetic Research Institute

Posted on: Thursday, 31 May 2007, 09:00 CDT

More than 1,000 Florida foodies will join Zsweet in celebrating the sweet life at the 16th Annual Feast Among the Grapes on June 2, 2007. Zsweet, a new, zero-calorie all-natural sweetener, has built a loyal Florida following since launching into Whole Foods Market and other retailers in the region last year. And now Zsweet will give back to the community through its support of the Diabetes Research Institute's annual fundraising event.

All-natural Zsweet is a blend of erythritol (pronounced ee-rith-ri-tol) and natural fruit extracts as flavor enhancers. Erythritol occurs naturally at low levels in many fruits and fermented foods, including cheese and beer. This proprietary blend makes all-natural Zsweet taste like sugar - without the sugar worries. Zsweet measures like sugar, and can be used in baking, cooking, and flavoring beverages. But unlike sugar, Zsweet has zero calories and zero glycemic effect, making it safe for diabetics and a perfect fit for revelers at Feast Among the Grapes.

"We developed Zsweet because we wanted to provide a product that was healthy, great-tasting and safe for diabetics," explains founder Tim Avila. "The grave consequences of diabetes have hit close to my own home, and I wanted to help my own family as well as other people who are battling health concerns such as obesity and diabetes. I am thrilled that we can support the Diabetic Research Institute by participating in this fun event."

Zsweet has worked with Chef LaLa, a chef, nutritionist and author of "Latin Lover Lite," to create a diabetic-friendly menu for the Feast Among the Grapes event. "We'll be serving fresh mojitos sweetened with Zsweet, and luscious desserts that our team will be preparing on site," said Chef LaLa.

"It has always been tough to create a diabetic-safe dessert that folks will rave about," says Avila. "But using Zsweet, you can make anything from stunning sculpted marzipan fruits to crisp cinnamon cookies that are truly safe for diabetics. Zsweet helps people -- dieters, diabetics, and anyone else watching their sugar - enjoy the sweet life, without sacrificing their health."

In Florida, Zsweet can be found at Whole Foods Markets, Chamberlin's and other regional grocers. The product is sold in original all-natural and a new organic variety, and can be purchased as a package of 50 single-serve packets or a larger, shaker-style container. A complete store finder is at www.zsweet.com, where the products can be purchased directly. The website also contains tasty recipes and more information from Chef LaLa.
