Chubu Electric to Buy CO2 Emission Rights From Indian Firm

Nagoya, June 4 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Co. said Monday it will purchase carbon dioxide emission rights from a hydroelectric company in India.

The Japanese power company will purchase a total 500,000 tons of CO2 emission credits in 2007-2012 from Ambuthirtha Power Private Ltd., which is undertaking a hydroelectric project under the Clean Development Mechanism of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol for combating global warming.

Following the latest move, the total CO2 emission rights bought worldwide by Chubu Electric will stand at 15.5 million tons.END
