School Bus, 2 Cars Collide: No Students Were Injured in the After-School Crash.
By Danielle Zielinski, Daily Press, Newport News, Va.
Jun. 7–JAMES CITY — A school bus and two cars collided at the intersection of Olde Towne Road and Westmoreland Drive Wednesday, delaying 30 Toano Middle School students who were on their way home from school.
The bus was waiting at a stop sign on Westmoreland Drive around 3 p.m. when a green Mercedes traveling northbound on Olde Towne Road attempted to make a left turn onto Westmoreland, said Virginia State Police Trooper Jeff Lister. The Mercedes apparently cut in front of a southbound Nissan Maxima, which crashed into it and sent it spinning into the front of the bus, he said.
No students were injured in the crash.
The driver of the Maxima was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Mercedes, 18-year-old Gabrielle Parsons of Elizabeth City, N.C., was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
After the accident, it took a schools’ crew 45 minutes to use a chain to straighten the front bumper of the bus. Some parents arrived to take students off the bus and bring them home. Eventually, the bus was able to continue its route.
