THE ISLAND of Mauritius has called on Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to assist in the development of its first metro line. DMRC will examine the feasibility of the project, which involves the construction of a 25km line using the alignment of the closed railway from the capital Port Louis to Curepipe. The specification calls for a capacity of 93,000 passengers per day with 13 stations served by trains running at 5-minute intervals in peak periods. A fleet of 14-16 trains will be required, with a maximum speed of 55-75km/h.
