Workers Wait for News on Jaguar Sell-Off Plans
Workers at a South Wales Ford engine plant are waiting nervously for news of a company sell-off of Jaguar cars.
The Ford engine plant, in Waterton Industrial Estate, Bridgend, pictured, currently employs 1,685 workers and has been making Jaguar engines for eight years.
Fears are growing in the factory since the decision was leaked yesterday to sell off both of the brand’s luxury marques – Jaguar and Land Rover in a bid to cut costs and offset declining sales.
The company, which sold its sports car brand Aston Martin for pounds 479m in March, is expected to make an official announcement on the future of Jaguar, which it has owned since 1989, in the next few days after shareholders are consulted.
