Tories Probe Maglev Route
By Anonymous
The Conservative Party is investigating the potential to link two cities with maglev trains, Planning has learnt. Speaking to Planning, shadow secretary of state for transport Chris Grayling said the best way of trialling the technology would be to look at east-west rail routes such as Leeds to Manchester or Edinburgh to Glasgow.
These routes would not compromise attempts to introduce a north- south line using traditional high-speed rail, Grayling explained.
“Maglev is something you would pilot on shorter distances because it is not tried and tested,” he added. “I am not picking a specific route. I am just saying if we were to link up two major cities, what would that cost?”
