Quixote Board of Directors Member and Northeastern University Professor Joseph M. Giglio Authors New Book on Developing National Transportation Vision

Posted on: Thursday, 14 June 2007, 12:15 CDT

CHICAGO, June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Joseph M. Giglio, Ph.D., Executive Professor of Strategy at Boston's Northeastern University's College of Business Administration and member of the Quixote Corporation Board of Directors, has authored a new book, Driving Questions: Developing a National Surface Transportation Vision, due out this spring.

In Driving Questions: Developing a National Surface Transportation Vision, Mr. Giglio aims to provide key public and private sector decision makers with a comprehensive perspective on the nation's surface transportation challenges and identify the fundamental questions that must be addressed before choosing the appropriate tactics and technologies to transform the current system into one that meets the country's current and future needs.

The 238-page book also outlines the current status of the nation's surface transportation system, what a long-range vision of the system might look like, and what we should do to turn strategy into reality.

"Until now, programs to address funding gaps and other shortcomings have been speculative at best, because they haven't been part of any overarching strategy," Professor Giglio points out. "The transportation industry as a whole is saying we need more money, but it is not stepping back to address the more basic strategic questions, like: what kind of systems or networks do we need? They are focusing on tactical questions. Before answering them, we first must address a series of critical strategic questions."

Driving Questions: Developing a National Surface Transportation Vision is Professor Giglio's third book, which includes his most recent, "Mobility."

Mr. Giglio is an Executive Professor at Northeastern University's College of Business Administration and Vice Chairman of the Hudson Institute, a leading public policy organization in Washington D.C. He has extensive experience within the transportation sector, and was elected to Chicago-based Quixote Corporation's Board of Directors this past spring. Quixote Corporation is a leading worldwide manufacturer of energy-absorbing highway crash cushions, electronic wireless measuring and sensing devices, weather forecasting systems, computerized highway advisory radio transmitting systems, intelligent intersection control systems, flexible post delineators and other transportation safety products.
