Idiotic Decision Will See City Continue to Decline
COVENTRY AIRPORT bosses last week lost a fight for a new passenger terminal.
The Government turned down their application for a terminal capable of handling up to two million passengers.

I’VE never personally used the airport, but I was in favour of the expansion from when TUI first took over the lease. This expansion could have injected a lot into the city and neighbouring towns, both tourism & business.
Sadly, the short sightedness of the ‘minority’, will mean the majority of us folk will have to suffer Coventry’s continued decline. Coventry is in desperate need of regeneration, I personally believe the airport is key to that.
I hope that the bosses at Coventry Airport and members of Coventry City Council lodge an appeal at the High Court as soon as possible.

… WE live at the top end of the Morrisons estate. If you consider the distance between the airport and our house, then look up as the planes pass over you would think the airport must be much closer. It is in the wrong place and should not have evenbeen considered for major expansion.
I hope this decision sets a precedent to help all the people living life under flight paths.

… TIME and time again its been proven that public opinion in Coventry is behind the expansion of the airport, while the residents of that part of Warwickshire are against it. I live under the flight path in Coventry, it doesn’t particularly bother me,the passenger flights are a lot quieter than the freight ones were. The passenger terminal is on an industrial estate, right near the main road network, so there’s no cars going through little villages.
This country has to move on, we can’t have every nimby blocking everything that would enhance the prospects of our country.

… THE Labour government has hammered another nail in to the city’s coffin.
I wonder how they can justify that shiny new terminal at Heathrow… oh, yes, of course, it’s in London…
Remember, the application has limited what the type of flights, not the actual planes…
At least with the terminal, there would have been a ban on night flying.
My personal hope is that the airport tries to get a smaller terminal built… let us not forget that around 600 jobs could be affected by this idiotic decision.

… I AM disgusted with this decision – Coventry’s economic decline goes further.
I used to live in Wyken and the noisiest aeroplanes were the cargo jets a few years ago, they used to fly late at night and were far noisier than the passenger jets. I’m sure the locals will appreciate this once the night cargo flights return.
I would just like to see Coventry grow, and I feel the airport has a role to play as part of this growth.

… THIS is a political decision – if they use noise as a reason for turning it down, then the same must apply to Birmingham Airport’s expansion, which will be a noise nuisance for far more people.
Flapdoodle
… THE casino at the Ricoh not even making the shortlist, no rail station at the Ricoh, Royal Mail sorting office closing, main Post Office moving to WH Smiths etc… never fear! Bob and Lord Geoff will swing into action, utter fighting talk thatChurchill would envy, go on protest marches, look glum in photographs and achieve nothing. All these years of being a staunch Labour city and what’s the reward?! Zilch.

… I WAS disappointed to see that planning permission for the new passenger terminal was refused.
A new terminal would bring many new jobs to the area which are sorely needed as well as revenue for the city.
Hopefully the airport management team will be able to successfully appeal this decision.
