Air China Selects Aviation Partners Boeing Blended Winglets for 737-800 Fleet

Posted on: Wednesday, 20 June 2007, 00:00 CDT

PARIS, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Air China and Aviation Partners Boeing have reached an agreement to assure Air China's future deliveries of Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be equipped with Blended Winglets. The firm order for 25 shipsets scheduled to deliver from October of this year through 2010 provides Air China, the Airline Partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with the most competitive aircraft in the demanding Chinese market. With this order, over 240 737-NG aircraft in China will be equipped with winglets.

"Air China's position in China speaks for itself," says Aviation Partners Boeing CEO John Reimers. "We immensely value their trust in Aviation Partners Boeing and Blended Winglet technology."

As the world arrives in Beijing in 2008 for the Olympic Games, winglets provide Air China with visible evidence of their commitment to environmentally and economically-responsible growth. Blended Winglets are a perfect example of technological advancement which results in reduced pollution emissions and operational cost savings. With all 25 aircraft equipped with winglets, Air China's annual carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 16,200 tons, annual nitrous oxide emissions by 45 tons, and annual fuel consumption by 5,120 tons.

Today every operator of 737-NG aircraft in China operates with Blended Winglets. As more aircraft are equipped with winglets, the compelling savings continue to increase. Currently, over 1750 Blended Winglet systems are in service with over 100 airlines in more than 40 countries. By 2010, with over 4500 airliners upgraded, APB anticipates that Blended Winglet Technology will have saved commercial airlines over 2 billion gallons of fuel.
