Emirates Airline to buy eight more Airbus A380s
ABU DHABI, June 19 (Xinhua) — The Dubai-based Emirates Airline has signed a deal worth 2.6 billion U.S. dollars with French aircraft maker Airbus to buy eight additional A380 aircraft, local newspaper Khaleej Times reported on Tuesday.
Ordered by Emirates Airline on Monday at the Paris International Air Show, the eight additional A380s took the carrier’s total order for the superjumbo aircraft to 55, making it the largest client of the A380.
“The A380 is a technologically advanced aircraft that fits perfectly with our projected growth strategy. Every single one of the A380s we have ordered has been carefully planned for Emirates’ present and future requirements,” Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the carrier’s chairman and chief executive, said in a statement.
The deal was the second order this year that the carrier has placed for the A380. In April, it ordered four additional A380s.
Airbus has received so far a total of 163 firm orders and 10 commitments for the A380.
But the aircraft maker has, on several occasions, postponed the launch and delivery of the A380, a move which has brought about negative consequences for the company in terms of financial aspect in the domain of personnel and strategic projects.
