American Airlines Succesful in Key International Safety Audit

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines has successfully completed the International Air Transport Association's Operation Safety Audit (IOSA) for 2007 and is awaiting IOSA Registration renewal. The IOSA Program is considered the standard for airline operational safety and quality. Currently, there are over 150 airlines around the world on the IOSA Registry.

Peggy Sterling, Vice President -- Safety, Security and Environment, said the timing of the announcement was perfect because American Airlines is recognizing June as National Safety Month through various activities around the system.

In an effort to maximize quality, integrity and security, the IOSA program conducts audits in a standardized and consistent manner for mutually interested airlines. The IOSA program is internationally accepted as a working evaluation system aimed specifically at an airline's operational management and control systems. With this program airlines and regulators share IOSA Audit Reports with the understanding that they are based on internationally recognized quality audit principles. As a result, the airline industry will be in a position to achieve the benefits of a cost-efficiency through a significant reduction in audit redundancy.

IOSA is a globally-accepted safety standard designed specifically for the aviation industry. The program includes the most important aspects of an airline's duty to deliver a safe operation and divides these into eight categories of quality testing -- Corporate Organization and Management System, Flight Operations, Operational Control and Dispatch, Aircraft Engineering and Maintenance, Cabin Operations, Aircraft Ground Handling, Cargo Operations, and Operation Security.
