Tropical Cyclone Yemyin hammered Pakistan’s coast before moving into Iran as a weaker storm Thursday.

At least 18 people were killed by the storm, the Pak Tribune reported.

Thousands of people were forced out of their homes. The cyclone also closed highways and railway lines.

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and major port, and Balochistan, a region that includes much of the coast, were especially hard hit. Areas in the interior that have not yet recovered from the 2005 Kashmiri earthquake also suffered from heavy rain and flooding.

In recent days, heavy pre-monsoon rains have caused havoc in India and Pakistan and killed an estimated 200 people, the BBC said.
