Sorry, but Bus Services Are Terrible
JONATHAN Paisley’s article about the over-use of cars in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire (June 28), made interesting reading, but failed to point out all the public transport problems in this area.
I work in Pollokshaws and there is no direct bus from Clarkston to there. For me to use the bus service would take three buses for a 15-minute car journey.
The trains run two an hour and I have more than a mile to get to the station.
If I go to a bus stop First Bus has kindly posted a timetable, but it does not match the times when the buses come.
If I go out at night and use the bus for the return journey, I find the 44A runs once an hour, which can spoil the evening.
I am fed up with bus companies saying the service is not viable due to lack of use. If there was a consistent, reliable and varied service, this would change.
Is public transport not a service anymore?

What is GHA doing?
WHILE I welcome the news Glasgow Housing Association residents are to receive a tax rebate on the cladding of their houses (June 27), I have to ask why it took the intervention of a tenant to bring the overcharging to light?
What do the highly-paid GHA staff do all day; sit around and count their money?
Surely it is the responsibility of the people who instigate, carry out and charge for the work to make sure they are charging the customer the right price for the job?
This latest ‘mix-up’ just goes to prove the association and its senior employees are not fit for purpose.
The sooner this cowboy outfit of ex-council high heid yins is run out of the city the better.

Club claim nonsense
CLUBS boss Stefan King says Glasgow risks being left behind in the tourist race with Edinburgh if it does not accept his absurd plan for a nightclub in the Botanics (June 27). That is nonsense.
I will happily make a donation to a charity of Mr King’s choice if he can point to any similar commercial development in the capital.
Edinburgh may be a lot of things, but it is not so stupid as to sign away public rights and amenities for personal profit.
Mr King and the councillors who gave permission for this scheme should be ashamed of themselves. They must think we are all numpties.

Square’s Super show
IT was great to see the superbikes come to George Square this week.
I could not believe the noise and the speed of these bikes. It was an amazing sight.
George Square was buzzing with excitement. Well done to the talented riders for putting on a great show for Glasgow.
