Wegmans Food Markets issued an alert Friday that 33.8-ounce bottles of Wegmans Blueberry Lemon Frizzante could spray forcefully when opened, and possibly burst.

The company has received several reports of the Italian soda spraying out of its bottle when opened, and one bottle reportedly burst, said Jo Nattale, director of media relations.

Wegmans said any bottle purchased after Dec. 1, 2006, could be under excessive pressure.

Wegmans said anyone who used a Shoppers’ Club card to purchase the product will receive a coupon in the mail.

Customers who have a suspected bottle of Blueberry Lemon Frizzante are asked to limit handling of the product and not bring it back to a store. Instead, it should be put in a garbage bag and in a garbage container outside.

Customers with concerns or questions can reach Wegmans’ consumer affairs department at (585) 464-4760 or call (800) WEGMANS (934- 6267).
