Labor Talks Planned Amid German Rail Strikes International Traveler / Update: FRANKFURT
July 5, 2007
German railway workers conducted strikes again Wednesday, disrupting long-distance traffic between major cities, as union leaders planned to meet with Hartmut Mehdorn, the chief executive officer of the national railway Deutsche Bahn.
Strikes affected ICE high-speed train services linking Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Dresden, Deutsche Bahn said on its Web site.
Mehdorn was to meet with leaders of the Transnet and GDBA rail workers later Wednesday in an attempt to end the walkouts, said Uwe Herz, a spokesman for Berlin-based Deutsche Bahn. The dispute was sparked over pay rates.
