SNOW Patrol’s Tom Simpson was released from custody hours before his band were due to headline the T in the Park festival yesterday.

The 35-year-old keyboard player was arrested at Heathrow Airport on drugs charges shortly after performing at the Live Earth concert at Wembley on Saturday.

He was sent to officers in Strathclyde, where the alleged offences took place.

They released him to play the festival after he agreed to appear at a Glasgow court tomorrow.

It has been alleged the former DJ had failed to meet a court appearance concerning the alleged possession of Class A drugs.

It had been feared Simpson would be detained in custody and miss his band playing the closing set in the T in the Park festival.

Before joining Snow Patrol, whose lead singer Gary Lightbody is from Bangor, Co Down, Simpson used to serve pizzas in a cafe bar in Dundee.
