MILWAUKEE, July 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Travel+Leisure magazine has named Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines "Best Domestic Airline" in its 2007 World's Best Awards competition. The magazine's subscribers -- highly sophisticated and seasoned travelers -- have selected the world's best services and places annually since 1997.
Midwest Airlines has won the title eight of the 11 years it has been awarded. Additionally, this past May Travel+Leisure recognized Midwest as "Top Domestic Airline for Service" -- an honor Midwest has won three of the four years that award has been given.
In the "World's Best Domestic Airline" category, Midwest Airlines came in first with a 77.13 ranking. The top-rated domestic airlines and their scores include:
1. Midwest Airlines 77.13 2. JetBlue Airways 72.45 3. Hawaiian Airlines 66.11 4. USA 3000 Airlines 63.28 5. Aloha Airlines 62.64 6. Frontier Airlines 62.53 7. Sun Country Airlines 62.52 8. Alaska Airlines 62.16 9. Southwest Airlines 61.73 10. Horizon Air 59.86
"We're very pleased to be recognized by Travel+Leisure readers, because it means that the service Midwest employees provide makes a lasting impression on travelers," said Timothy E. Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer. "It's truly gratifying to know that customers value the personal and heartfelt service we provide." Hoeksema pointed out the recognition from Travel+Leisure comes on the heels of other positive achievements for Milwaukee's hometown airline -- the launch of 50-seat regional jet service, an expansive new codeshare program with Northwest Airlines, and wide-ranging schedule and service enhancements including the introduction of service to four new destinations already this year.
A complete list of World's Best Awards 2007 winners in every category is on the magazine's Web site -- http://www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest. The winners will also be featured in the August issue of Travel+Leisure, on newsstands July 24.
The airline scores are indexed averages of readers' responses in five categories: cabin comfort, food, inflight service, customer service and value. The questionnaire, developed by the editors of Travel+Leisure in association with Harris Interactive, was made available to subscribers in the first quarter of 2007. Respondents reported where they had traveled worldwide, and rated only the destinations, properties, and companies that were relevant to their recent travel experiences. Respondents were asked to rate airlines, cities, cruise lines, hotels, islands, car-rental companies, spas and hotel spas, and tour operators/safari outfitters.
Midwest Airlines features jet service throughout the United States, including Milwaukee's most daily nonstop flights and best schedule to major destinations. Catering to business travelers and discerning leisure travelers, the airline earned its reputation as "The best care in the air" by providing passengers with impeccable service and onboard amenities at competitive fares. Both Skyway Airlines, Inc. -- a wholly owned subsidiary of Midwest Airlines -- and SkyWest Airlines, Inc. operate as Midwest Connect and offer service to and connections through Midwest Airlines' hubs. Together, the airlines offer service to 51 cities. More information is available at http://www.midwestairlines.com/.
