Ukrainian President Appoints Chief of Armed Forces Southern Command

Kiev, 10 July: Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has appointed Petro Lytvyn as chief of the Southern Operational Command [of the Ukrainian armed forces].
The president signed a decree to this effect today, his press service said.
The previous chief of the Southern Operational Commander was Ivan Svida.
